00:00:32
I'm your host mark.
00:00:33
Let's get to it.
00:00:42
Welcome back Rams fans and let me just say thank God we were in the Super Bowl last year or this season would be even more painful.
00:00:52
Rams lose to the Bucs 16 to 13 in a painful fashion.
00:00:57
I've been a RAM fan for a long time.
00:01:00
And every few years you have a loss like this.
00:01:03
That's just going to hurt for a few days, if not all week.
00:01:07
And this was definitely one of them.
00:01:10
Rams defense controlled this game for 59 minutes. Again, we feel like they should have won. Another hand is like you know, the way we played on offense. Maybe we didn't deserve to win.
00:01:22
Been saying that a lot this year.
00:01:24
Our defense gives up a late drive and lets the game slip away, but.
00:01:29
At the same time, I feel really bad for them because they are playing lights.
00:01:32
Out week in and week out for the most part, but this offense is getting nothing done or very little done to support the effort.
00:01:41
Before we move on, I wanted to get a few things out of the way.
00:01:44
Very quickly, mention, hey, the Astros won the World Series.
00:01:48
I know nobody here cares, but I have to mention it and this being a Los Angeles.
00:01:53
Brands Podcast I want to give a shout out to L AFC winners of the MSL Cup and what a game that was.
00:02:02
I turned it on in the second-half on Saturday to escape another boring day of college football. And man, it was the best soccer game I've ever seen.
00:02:12
Very glad I got a chance to watch that. Not an L AFC fan necessarily, but that was fun to watch and it's always nice to see an L A-Team bring home a title.
00:02:24
As long as it's not the Chargers.
00:02:27
Back to this Rams game.
00:02:28
My prediction Rams 20 bucks 17.
00:02:31
Wasn't too far off.
00:02:34
The Rams continued to play that same defensive style. They've been playing all year bend, but don't break, and it held up for 59 minutes and 50 seconds, but in the end, another lackluster offensive performance really did us in specifically in the fourth quarter where the rants were shut out once again. And Tom.
00:02:54
Brady and the Bucs pull off the 16 to 13 win.
00:02:57
Rams fell behind early three to nothing big place.
00:03:00
Stafford took up, puts them up 7 to 3 bucks, get a field goal right before the half to make it 7 to 6 Rams could have field goal to go up 5:50 and then 13 to 6.
00:03:12
Bucs add a field goal to make it 13 to 9 and the Rams have two possessions.
00:03:17
2 opportunities to take some time off the clock and they can't.
00:03:21
Three and out both times.
00:03:24
And the bucks.
00:03:25
Get the ball back with 44 seconds left into, you guessed it, a breakdown in the Rams secondary.
00:03:31
A couple little sideline completions and then a pass interference in the end zone and the Rams come away losers.
00:03:39
Now I'm going to put this loss primarily on two things.
00:03:42
One would be the passive approach.
00:03:45
By Sean McVay on those last two possessions.
00:03:49
And two.
00:03:51
Just confusion in the secondary on that last drive I don't even know if it was confusion or just lack of focus or the wrong scheme.
00:04:03
I'm not even sure.
00:04:04
I'm sure we'll find out more about it in the coming days.
00:04:08
But that was a bad look.
00:04:10
Can't give up a 28 yard completion on 1st down there. Can't give up sideline completions after that and then a pass interference in the end zone to wrap things up for our Los Angeles Rams. Pretty gut wrenching. Pretty painful.
00:04:28
Back to the drawing board for the Rams offense.
00:04:30
They gotta find a way to get a couple wins here.
00:04:34
And they better do it fast.
00:04:36
Let's go through what I identified as my fearsome 4 keys to the game in the game preview last week.
00:04:42
Christian P number one was get to Brady.
00:04:44
Can't play soft against this guy and I don't even know how much it matters anymore.
00:04:49
I don't know if we can really get to him on a consistent.
00:04:52
Basis get to anybody.
00:04:54
But our approach worked.
00:04:56
Again, for 59 minutes it did not work on that last drive for whatever reason.
00:05:02
So I don't even know if that was a correct key for me to identify, because we obviously could have beat them without getting to Brady, but we can't blow coverages on the back end.
00:05:15
For some key #2, run the ball and we had a couple of key runs that set up a field goal. That's about it.
00:05:23
Here's some key #3. Win the turnover battle. We did not either team turn the ball over unless you count the blocked field goal.
00:05:31
And for some key #4 points, any points kick the field goals, get the points on the board, and I thought I was going to be right for a while there until that last drive. You know you can just take these fearsome 4 keys to the game.
00:05:47
Put it on a piece of paper and burn it.
00:05:49
The way this team is playing.
00:05:50
There's no keys to the game anymore.
00:05:52
It's about moving the ball any way you can find a way to move the ball and protect Stafford and pick up some chunk plays.
00:06:01
That's all we need to do.
00:06:02
Defense is fine.
00:06:04
They blew it on the last drive, yes, but they only give up 16 points.
00:06:08
They shut down the Bucs for most of the day.
00:06:11
They need some help from the offense.
00:06:15
Real quickly, some team stats Rams finished with just nine first downs.
00:06:20
Another anemic day at the office for the entire offense. take away Cooper Cups 2 catches. Consider that how bad this day would have looked.
00:06:29
The defense brought it given up just the one touchdown held the Bucks to 51 yards rushing. And how about this step?
00:06:38
This is going to make you nauseous. 8 of 12 Rams possessions, not counting the kneeldowns resulted in A3 and out on Sunday through eight games.
00:06:47
38.9% of possessions after the Defense Forces A3 and out, or a turnover on downs has been followed by a Rams.
00:06:58
Three and out, and that's why I have a feeling half the Rams locker room is really ****** *** at the other half.
00:07:05
And what does it all mean?
00:07:06
Well, in the morning a lot of games went our way.
00:07:10
The Packers, a team that the Rams could be fighting for a wild card spot down the road they lost.
00:07:17
The commanders also lost falling to four and five, and the Bears and Falcons both lost.
00:07:22
Now in the afternoon, the two games that we needed to go our way did not.
00:07:26
Well, we needed to win, obviously, and it would have been nice to see the Cardinals.
00:07:31
Knock off the Seahawks, but that didn't happen.
00:07:34
So within their division, the Rams find themselves in an even deeper hole.
00:07:39
Seahawks are proving to six and three, and the Rams fall into three and five idle 49ers 4 and four. The Cardinals fall to three and six, so they're not happy either.
00:07:50
Ramps aren't out of this, but jeez, they need to pick up a couple wins real fast and that's not going to happen until they get this offense figured out and it's just more the same every week, just unpleasant offensive football to watch and let's it's Cooper Kupp streaking down the field.
00:08:11
Not much else is working.
00:08:13
I'm trying to be optimistic here.
00:08:15
Sure, I think the Rams could still make a run at a playoff spot, but until I see it on the field until I see some production on the field on the offensive side of the ball on a consistent basis and putting the ball in the end zone on a regular basis, scoring points in the fourth quarter.
00:08:35
How about that?
00:08:37
Not feeling too good about this team prospects.
00:08:40
And that's why I'm just telling you so.
00:08:43
Happy they won the Super Bowl last year.
00:08:45
Just imagine how we would all feel if that had not happened last year.
00:08:50
If the Rams head perhaps lost the 49ers in the NFC Championship game or lost to the Bengals in the Super Bowl and then they found themselves.
00:09:00
In the middle of a season like this.
00:09:03
Now most of you all of you have only followed a Rams up podcast in a Super Bowl winning season.
00:09:11
This year may be the exception, but I am not going to back off.
00:09:15
I'm going to still continue presenting on the YouTube channel.
00:09:19
The Rams past the playoffs.
00:09:21
I'll do that down to the very end until they are absolutely eliminated.
00:09:26
So look for that later this week.
00:09:28
We'll be back in a moment with our game capture.
00:09:31
And then some more notes on the game, followed by our loop around the league.
00:09:39
Your kickers lining up for an onside kick.
00:09:41
The chances of regaining possession are slim.
00:09:45
The stakes are high and the tension is higher.
00:09:48
He kicks and you watch as the ball lands.
00:09:51

00:11:18
2nd, so let's capture this Rams Bucs game for you.
00:11:27
First half Rams go three and out on their opening possession.
00:11:31
Bucs set up at their own 44 after a 17 yard punt return, they Peck away at the Rams pass defense and get to the Rams 2 yard line before settling for a field goal. They had two third down conversions. Brady to Evans on that drive. Brady finishes.
00:11:46
5 for six for 51 yards. Rams really getting no pressure at all. Rams second possession. They miss out on a splash play when Van Jefferson drops a pass that would have.
00:11:57
Been a big gain.
00:11:59
Rams managed one first down, but a sack sets up a third and 19, which might as well be third in a mile.
00:12:06
The way this offense is going.
00:12:08
And they put it back to the Bucks Bucks offense can't overcome a holding call.
00:12:14
Floyd and Donald get pressure on 3rd down.
00:12:17
Bucs punt it back to the Rams.
00:12:19
Powell Mishandles a punt but recovers.
00:12:22
It probably should have just let it go.
00:12:24
The punt was boomed over his head.
00:12:26
He retreated about 20 yards to try to.
00:12:28
Catch it, it squirted away from him.
00:12:31
Fortunately, he was able to grab it.
00:12:33
The Rams averaging less than two yards per play at this point, but they convert 2 third downs and then on 2nd and 11 Stafford bobbles the snap and then hits a streaking cup for a 69 yard pass play. Brings back fond memories of the explosive Los Angeles Rams of years gone.
00:12:53
By doesn't it?
00:12:54
It was kind of interesting on the previous play on 1st and 10 cup last yard.
00:13:00
Trying to get around the right corner.
00:13:02
And Bucs linebacker Devin White got in his face talking a little bit of crap. And on the very next Play Cup burns through the entire Bucs defense for the touchdown, Tampa Bay's following possession.
00:13:16
Three and out and the Rams.
00:13:19
They go three and out two.
00:13:21
And the box they go three and out you're detecting a pattern here trail.
00:13:27
Lewis almost grabbed a screen pass for an interception.
00:13:30
Would have been a really difficult catch, but the ball did glance off his hands and the Rams get the ball back at their own 11.
00:13:37
Still fighting the field position battle and losing.
00:13:41
Two Darrell Henderson runs in an incompletion and they go three and out.
00:13:46
The Bucks get the ball at their own.
00:13:47
34 convert 2 third downs but Brady misfires on another third down and the Rams block the 52 yard field goal attempt.
00:13:56
Now Bobby Wagner made a great play on this, jumping over the center and then jumping up and blocking the kick.
00:14:02
But go back and watch Michael Hoyt on that play.
00:14:05
He flattens the center from the side.
00:14:08
Allowing Wagner to make that jump so the Bucs come away empty Ram still leading seven to three, and more importantly, you would hope anyways, out of that blocked field goal, the Rams have finally flipped the field.
00:14:20
They get the ball at their own 40.
00:14:22
But they go three and out.
00:14:24
Great punt.
00:14:26
By Riley Dixon, pins Tampa Bay.
00:14:28
Back at the 10 Michael Hoyt shown up on film once more, making a great tackle on that punt and with time running out in the first half.
00:14:36
Big Pass interference penalty on Gary on Kendrick 32 yard penalty gets a buck set up in Rams territory.
00:14:43
And with 28 seconds left they.
00:14:45
Kicked the 38 yard field goal.
00:14:48
And we go to halftime.
00:14:50
Rams 7 bucks six second-half the Bucs opening possession is really ugly. They go three and out. The Rams get bought their own 25 after a great punt. Looked like a great return by Brandon Powell, but memories of Tavon Austin? It comes back on a holding call, Allen Robinson and Malcolm Brown.
00:15:10
Both pick up first downs on 3rd down receptions. Henderson runs for 10 and 23 yards. That's the longest run of the Rams season.
00:15:20
They get down to the 11 yard line, but the Bucs defense stiffens and the Rams kick the field goal to go up 10 to 6 bucks another three and out.
00:15:29
Two penalties set up, a fourth and 20, but a giant punt. 74 yards Rams are stuck back at their eleven after a sack there set up with a third in 17 and they have to punt from their own 10 so another three and out for the Rams. Tampa Bay has the ball at their own 47 Troy Hill.
00:15:49
Almost picks off a pass the Bucs 4th and two in Rams territory.
00:15:54
But Aaron Donald comes up with the sack.
00:15:56
So instead of A3 and out, it's even better. It's a foreign out, and the Rams are set up at the Bucs 47 yard line.
00:16:03
Big Pasta Cooper Kupp for 34 yards down to the 10 but Stafford is sacked on 2nd down and the Rams subtle for.
00:16:11
Another field goal.
00:16:12
They're up 13 to 6.
00:16:14
We're getting into the fourth quarter here.
00:16:16
The Bucks pick up one first down and punt.
00:16:19
This is that punt that bounces so close to the end line, but they call it a touchback.
00:16:23
It doesn't really matter.
00:16:24
The Rams are three and out.
00:16:26
And the bucks get the ball back after 38 bucks. Pick up a couple of first downs, but eventually settle for a 50 yard field goal and it's 13 to 9.
00:16:37
There's 807 left and the Rams have the ball, but they go backwards on two runs and then Stafford is sacked trying to scramble out of the pocket rally Dixon.
00:16:46
Consumer, the 55 yard punt to Tampa Bay setup at their own 40 with 543 left. They pick up a couple of first downs to eventually get to 1st and goal at the Rams 8.
00:16:59
Scotty Miller drops a pass in the end zone on 2nd down.
00:17:03
Ramsey picks up a pass on 3rd down and their hands end up holding, but knocking down a pass in the end zone.
00:17:10
They take over at their own 8 yard line.
00:17:14
Still can't get anything done.
00:17:15
Play it very safe and this would be their undoing.
00:17:20
Pick up a first down in the game's over. They can't do it and they have to punt with 44 seconds left.
00:17:28
Tampa Bay after own 40 and the Rams defense can't get it done.
00:17:33
Ramsey gets up a big pass up the middle.
00:17:36
Darrion Kendrick pass interference in the end zone and Tampa Bay scores with 9 seconds left and the Rams lose 16 to 13.
00:17:49
Second, some final notes on this depressing 16 to 13 loss to Tampa Bay.
00:18:01
I'll go through my fearsome 4 big plays of the game and there's really one that stood out.
00:18:07
I'm going to get through some honorable mentions here that.
00:18:09
Blocked field goal kept three points off the board.
00:18:12
Bobby Wagner coming through, but they're instead.
00:18:15
Nothing with the field position.
00:18:17
Went three and out punted it right back to the box who then drove down for a field goal.
00:18:22
That early dropped by Van Jefferson.
00:18:24
Not sure what would have came from that had he been able to catch it.
00:18:28
And how about that drop by Scotty Miller in the end zone.
00:18:32
But in retrospect, maybe it would have been better if he had caught it.
00:18:37
Forcing the Rams to try to get something done on offense.
00:18:41
Henderson 23 Yard run that set up a field goal that was a big play and that box punter man he was our nemesis for most of the game. In particular that 74 yard punt that flipped the field for the Bucs.
00:18:57
And that touchback?
00:18:58
That wasn't a touchback.
00:19:00
That really saved the Rams there in that second pass.
00:19:03
Interference on Kendrick in the end zone.
00:19:06
That was a big play indeed, but I'm going to tell you what my fearsome 4 big plays.
00:19:12
Early in the second quarter, Stafford took up for the Rams only TD. A 69 yard catch and run Cooper Cup at his best fearsome big play #2 late in the second quarter, pass interference on Derion Kendrick that set up the Bucks second field goal just before the half, cutting the Rams.
00:19:32
Lead 276.
00:19:34
There's some big play #3 at late in the third quarter. Aaron Donald Sacks Brady on 4th and two sets up the Rams last drive, where they improved their lead to 13 to 6 with another field goal.
00:19:47
But my fearsome big planar before is really the biggest play. The game stands out among all the rest with 44 seconds.
00:19:55
Left Brady and the Bucs at their own 42 and Brady hits their tight end for a 28 yard gain to the Rams 32.
00:20:05
I don't know what our secondary was doing on that play.
00:20:07
I don't know what the call was by our defensive coordinator.
00:20:12
But there were a couple of guys that didn't seem to get what was going on and what needed to happen on that play.
00:20:19
Jalen Ramsey seemed to be a spectator.
00:20:23
10 Rep May have been out of position as well.
00:20:26
I'd like to hear more about what happened on this play, but it was devastating and as soon as they hit that play it changed everything and I knew we were in deep trouble.
00:20:37
Some additional notes on this game.
00:20:38
Chandler Brewer started at right guard, leaving Bobby Evans at left guard.
00:20:44
I thought that was kind of strange, I thought.
00:20:46
Evans would have been the guy pulled Laevo Debuchy in there at right.
00:20:51
Hard, but Rahm saw it differently.
00:20:54
Bobby haven't said a bad game.
00:20:55
We'll talk about that in a minute.
00:20:57
AJ Jackson, the left tackle, came out briefly, but he came back in.
00:21:02
Henderson ended up with some decent stats.
00:21:04
Really, 12 rushes for 56 yards acres 5 carries for three yards. Let's see if he's still unhappy with how he's being used. Tyler Higbee had just one target on that screen Pass. No completions.
00:21:18
To our tight ends, Hopkins also had a target pass came up.
00:21:23
Player props.
00:21:24
Well, you know there are some guys that played well.
00:21:27
Sometimes we don't even bother mentioning Aaron, Donald and Cooper Kupp they deserve game balls every week.
00:21:33
It's just the truth, no different today. Cop 8 catches for 127 yards in the TD. As I mentioned on Twitter, this might happen and it did.
00:21:44
Kupp passes Elroy Crazylegs Hirsch he's now #4.
00:21:49
As far as Rams career receiving yardage behind three of the best ever, Isaac Bruce Torry Holt and Henry Ellard Donald had the one sack and I think he had two tackles for losses.
00:22:02
Bobby Wagner had a big game, 8 tackles, 5 assists and the blocked field goal.
00:22:08
And how about Michael Hall?
00:22:10
He had two big special teams plays, one on the blocked punt.
00:22:13
Mentioned that in our game capture and then he had a great tackle on punt coverage that had he not made that tackle bucks might have had a really nice return there so Michael Hoyt gets my prop today as well.
00:22:26
Bad games.
00:22:27
Well one is obvious.
00:22:29
Bobby Evans there are times where it looked like the game had left him behind. He's standing there looking left and right for someone in the block and Stafford's already running for his life.
00:22:41
Not a good day for Bobby Evans.
00:22:43
I can't believe the Rams are going to continue to roll with him.
00:22:46
It's not.
00:22:47
Working and darion Kendrick.
00:22:49
He had two bad plays now.
00:22:52
Overall he might have been OK in coverage.
00:22:55
I have to see what his Pro Football focus grades are, but there are a couple times where he really hurt us.
00:23:00
Can't deny that coaches corner now I have been calling for play action on 1st down for a while here.
00:23:07
And they did it early on a couple times and it worked.
00:23:11
They seem to get away with that and they got into this conservative.
00:23:14
Let's not make any crazy mistakes mentality.
00:23:18
Their last two possessions 3 and outs.
00:23:22
All they needed was one first down.
00:23:25
And they win this game and they played it very close to the vest.
00:23:29
A nice little 8 yard pass to a tight end or Cooper Kupp to seal this game and we weren't even going to try it so I was very disappointed in that.
00:23:40
McVeigh used to be much more aggressive and you know the coach before him.
00:23:43
Jeff Fisher.
00:23:44
I can tell you what he would have done.
00:23:46
He would have went for it.
00:23:47
He would have said we need a first down.
00:23:49
Here we're not going to give the ball back to Tom Brady.
00:23:52
Let's go get a first down.
00:23:54
I'm sure Sean McVay is rethinking that.
00:23:58
As far as the announcers go, no complaints.
00:24:01
Tony Romo is fine.
00:24:02
I think it's very fair, balanced and adds a lot of interesting information that sometimes us as listeners aren't Privy to.
00:24:13
And the refs, I thought they were fine.
00:24:15
They missed the one in favor of the Rams.
00:24:17
That was not a touchback.
00:24:19
Should not have been a touchback but but I guess it can review that.
00:24:23
I'm surprised the Bucs didn't challenge it, but they didn't.
00:24:26
And the Rams got away with one there.
00:24:29
We'll be back in a second with our loop around the league.
00:24:38
Let's get into our week nine.
00:24:40
Look around the league.
00:24:42
The NFL is making up for some lackluster college football.
00:24:47
Aside from that, LSU Alabama game, two straight weeks of less than.
00:24:52
Entertaining football on Saturdays, but first that Eagles Texans game on Thursday night equals 29 Texas 17.
00:25:00
In tide at halftime, but the equals got ruined in the second-half. The first eight no start in the Eagles history.
00:25:07
Bengals 42 Panthers 21. This is not one of the games I'm referring to as far as entertainment value.
00:25:14
Although if you had Joe Mixon on your fantasy football team, you were pretty thrilled mixing 4 rushing TD's.
00:25:20
One receiving TD.
00:25:22
Bengals staying in the playoff hunt with A5 and four record Panthers may be still hungover from that devastating loss the week before the overtime debacle against the Falcons. Patriots 26 Colts three, there is only one offensive touchdown in this game. Colts are just.
00:25:42
But done, I think this one was fun.
00:25:45
The Chargers 20.
00:25:46
The Falcons 17 crazy game in the closing minutes.
00:25:50
Austin Ekeler tackled at the Falcons 19.
00:25:54
Setting up a would be game-winning field goal, right? But he fumbles the Falcons, scoop it up the defensive tackle rents it all the way back outside the 40 he fumbles, and the Chargers recover and they turn right around and get back to the exact same spot they were before. The Falcons 19 and her old.
00:26:15
Friend Cameron Decker kicks the game-winning field goal for the Chargers. They win 20 to 17 and this is the type of game the Chargers used to always lose. Jags 27 Raiders 20 Raiders had a 17 to nothing lead and it slipped away from.
00:26:32
Mom, this team is just a headache. If you're a fan of hers. Travis Etienne, 109 yards rushing in two TDs for the Jags. Another crazy game, the Lions 15 the Packers 9.
00:26:46
I don't know about the Stan Campbell guy.
00:26:47
Sometimes Lion Stevens is really playing well finally.
00:26:53
They're up 15 to 9. They have it 4th and three at the Green Bay 43 and they go for it. This is with less than two minutes left.
00:27:03
They don't get it, and you're given Aaron Rodgers one last shot from his own 43 yard line. But the defense holds up and there was a crazy play in that game as well.
00:27:14
A deep pass by Rodgers.
00:27:16
The ball is caught and then he fumbles and two lions are scrambling trying to recover it before it goes out of bounds.
00:27:22
And they can't that set.
00:27:24
Up the Packers in the red zone with four final shots at the end zone and the Lions D help.
00:27:32
The Dolphins hold off the Bears 35 to 32, but how about Justin Fields? He ran for 178 yards the most by any NFL quarterback in a regular season game wasn't enough.
00:27:44
Tyreek Hill, by the way, had another 143 yards receiving man after that opening day.
00:27:51
Thumping of the Rams everybody thought the bills were cruising to the Super Bowl where they dropped another one to fall to six and two.
00:27:58
This went to The Jets 20 to 17.
00:28:01
Jets rallied from a 14 three deficit to get the win.
00:28:04
The Vikings also rallied for a win.
00:28:07
They were down 17 to 7 in the fourth quarter to the commanders.
00:28:11
A couple of field.
00:28:12
Goals and a touchdown pass.
00:28:14
Cousins to Dalvin Cook did the trick and the Vikings improved to 7 and one locking down that NFC.
00:28:22
Now we are hoping the Seahawks would come back down to Earth, but they did not very impressive win over the Cardinals in Arizona.
00:28:30
31 to 21 their fourth straight win, Geno Smith and the rookie running back Kenneth Walker, the third. Both getting it done. Walker finishing with 109 yards rushing in.
00:28:42
Two TD's.
00:28:47
That's going to do it this episode.
00:28:49
We hope you enjoyed it.
